Puppies Flea Treatment
Puppies flea treatment
products can be purchased either over-the counter or from your veterinarian. While over-the-counter products are cheaper, they generally aren’t as effective. With that being said, it’s best to purchase a brand from your vet.
The top brands your vet will likely suggest are
Advantage and Frontline
. The good thing about these brands is that they’re also available for purchase online if your veterinarian’s office isn’t nearby.
Advantage can be used on puppies at least seven weeks old.
This form of puppies flea treatment is applied once a month by placing the applicator tip to the puppy’s skin between the shoulder blades and squeezing the tube until it’s empty.
Once applied, the fleas will stop biting your puppy in about five minutes and will completely kill all fleas and their larvae within 12 hours. It’s extremely rare for your puppy to experience any side effects from using the Advantage flea treatment product. However, sometimes puppies can experience skin sensitivity for a day or two. If it’s persistent or any other problems arise, contact your veterinarian as soon as possible. Advantage doesn’t kill ticks. If your puppy also suffers from ticks, you would need to use a tick collar along with this product.
Frontline is the other flea treatment product you might want to consider using. This brand of puppies flea treatment can be used as long as your puppy is at least ten weeks old. It’s given in monthly doses by placing the applicator tip to the skin between your puppy’s shoulder blades and squeezing the tubes entire content onto this area. Frontline is waterproof; however, you should wait 24 hours before letting your puppy swim or bathe. Once applied, all fleas and their larvae will be killed within 24 hours. Frontline kill’s ticks too, so no other products will need to be used if ticks are also a problem for you. Your puppy may experience some skin irritation where the product was applied. This should only last a few days. If the irritation becomes severe or any other problems arise, contact your veterinarian as soon as possible.
